Fitting Tips – Before you start

🛠 Build and install your wardrobe interior storage first. Once the wardrobe doors have been fitted it will be more difficult to install your interiors.

🛠 Make sure there are no water pipes or electrical cables in the area of installation.

🛠 Check you have all of the tools and materials required to build your wardrobe. Screws and fixings are not included in your DIY kit.

WALL TO WALL FITTING INSTRUCTIONS

If you selected wall and bottom liners for your wall to wall sliding wardrobe, you will need to fit these first. In your kit you will have 2x wall liner and 1x bottom liner (in 2 pieces if the run is longer than 2800mm).

STEP 1: FITTING THE WALL LINERS

Step 1: Fitting the wall liners

🔧 Prepare the area by removing any coving that might be in the way of your wall liners as they will go all the way to the ceiling.

🔧 Draw a pencil line 650mm from the back wall (as recommended when measuring up) to ensure you have enough space for internal storage. Use a spirit level to continue this pencil line all the way down to the skirting board.

🔧 You will need to prepare the skirting if you want the wall liners to go to the floor. Our liners are 100mm deep by 18mm wide, so cut a 102mm section out of the skirting towards the back wall. This will ensure that the liner fits comfortably.

🔧 Once prepared you need to cut the liners to size (floor to ceiling) minus 2mm. Use a panel adhesive to stick the liner to the wall just behind the pencil line. Use a spirit level to ensure the liner is vertical and pack behind the wall liner as necessary. If you must screw the liner to the wall, countersink the screws to make sure the screw heads are flush with the liner surface. We do not recommend you screw the wall liners, as the screw heads will be visible.

🔧 Fit the second wall liner to the opposite side using the same method.

STEP 2: FITTING THE BOTTOM LINER Step 2: Fitting the bottom liner

NOTE: We strongly advise against fitting the bottom track (or liner) directly onto carpet.  Please fit the bottom liner on to the floorboards and then carpet up to the bottom liner. The bottom liner is fitted for the bottom track to sit on.

🔧 Cut the bottom liner to size minus 2mm. Drill 600mm centre holes (starting 50mm from the edge of the liner) and place the bottom liner into position (between the 2 wall liners). It’s important to check that the bottom liner is level in order to prevent the sliding doors from rolling away. So pack under the liner where necessary.

🔧 Once you’re happy with the position, screw the bottom liner down to the floorboards using countersunk screws so that the screw heads are flush with the liner surface.

A bottom liner will not be needed if you have solid wood flooring (or similar). You can install the bottom track directly onto your flooring.

WALL TO END PANEL FITTING INSTRUCTIONS

Step 3 is only required if you intend to fit your sliding wardrobe door kit between a wall and an end panel. Otherwise, please skip to Step 4.

STEP 3: FITTING THE END PANELStep 3: Fitting the end panel

🔧 Using a spirit level, draw a pencil line on the back wall to the width dimensions that you ordered (the larger of the two D & E measurements as instructed in our How To Measure For Sliding Doors Guide)

🔧 Cut your end panel to size and fix to the back wall, ceiling and floor using angle brackets or panel fixing blocks, making sure that they are flush with the edges.

🔧 Check that the end panel is vertical and then continue to install the bottom and wall liners as per the WALL to WALL instructions above, remembering that your end panel works as one of your wall liners.

STEP 4:
FITTING THE TOP TRACKStep 4: Fitting the top track

The top track will be delivered to you cut to size minus 1mm for positioning.

🔧 Prepare the top track by drilling 5mm holes (600mm centers).

🔧 Position the front face of the top track 2mm from the front edge of either the wall liner or end panel.

🔧 Use the prepared holes to mark their position and drill holes in the ceiling for rawl plugs to take the screws to hold the top track in place.

🔧 Screw the track into the ceiling being careful not to over tighten (as this could distort it).

STEP 5: FITTING THE BOTTOM TRACK

The installation instructions for the bottom track will vary depending on the wardrobe style you have chosen at Slide Wardrobes Direct. Please go to the relevant installation:

Minimalist, Eclipse, Metro & Icon: Concealed fixing bottom track Step 5: Fitting the bottom track

🛠 Prepare the bottom track installation by marking 60mm from the front of the bottom liner and draw a line (parallel with the front of the bottom liner) for the Minimalist and Eclipse range. Mark 50mm for the Metro and Icon range. This line will be the centre of the bottom track.

🛠 Screw the black locator nylon buttons provided around 600mm centres. You can now simply clip the bottom track onto the buttons.

Shaker & Linear: Screw Fixing Bottom Track

🔧 Prepare the bottom track for these wardrobes by drilling 5mm holes (in the center of the track) 600mm centers starting 50mm from the edge.

🔧 Mark 60mm from the front of the bottom liner and draw a line (parallel with the front of the bottom liner by 60mm). This line will be the centre of the bottom track.

🔧 Place the bottom track on the bottom liner and position so you can see the pencil line through the prepared holes.

🔧 Check that the Shaker or Linear sliding doors are vertical using a spirit level. Then screw the bottom track into position through the prepared holes into the bottom liner using suitable screws.

Monaco: Screw Fixing Bottom Trac

🛠 Prepare the Monaco bottom liner by drilling 5mm holes (in the center of the track) 600mm centers starting 50mm from the edge.

🛠 Locate the front edge of the bottom track 12mm from the front edge of the bottom liner and mark with a pencil.

🛠 Use a spirit level to check that the doors are vertical. Then screw the bottom track into position through the prepared holes into the bottom liner using suitable screws.

Fixing With No Liners

Position the bottom track loosely on the floor and place one of the sliding doors onto it in a vertical position, ensuring that the top track is engaged. Check that the doors are vertical using a spirit level. Once you’re happy with the door position, screw the bottom track into place.

STEP 6:
INSTALLING THE SLIDING DOORSStep 6: Installing the wardrobe sliding doors

Instructions on how to fit the soft close mechanism to the doors and top track is included in your installation kit as per your wardrobe style. Fit the sliding doors onto the track as follows:

🔧 Tilt the doors and carefully insert the top wheels into the rear channel of the top track.

🔧 Insert the bottom rollers into the rear groove of the bottom track. Be careful not to scratch the bottom track.

🔧 Repeat the procedure with the next door(s) using the front channel and groove.

For multi door applications, alternate doors on tracks:

🔧 For wardrobes with 3 doors, the outer doors will go on the back track and the middle door will go on the front track.

🔧 For wardrobes with 4 doors, the outer doors will go on the back track and the 2 middle doors will meet in the middle on the front track.

STEP 7: ADJUSTING THE SLIDING DOORSStep 7: Adjusting the wardrobe sliding doors

🔧 For vertical adjustment of the Shaker, Linear, Minimalist, Eclipse, Metro and Icon doors: Use a Philips screwdriver on the bottom wheel to raise or lower the door on each side. Once you’re happy with the position, lock the anti jump device on the bottom track/bottom wheel.

🔧 For the Monaco Range lift the side brush slightly at the bottom of the doors and use an Allen key to adjust the doors.

And that’s it, you’re done!
